Do you need special equipment for Pilates?
When practising Pilates at home, you won't need any special equipment. Although, it is strongly recommended that you use a yoga mat for your own comfort when doing Pilates. Additionally, many people like to utilise basic equipment such as yoga blocks and resistance bands to help get a deeper stretch or assist them in their Pilates workout. Your Pilates instructor will be able to show you how to use the equipment correctly in your home.
What do you need for beginner Pilates?
If you're just starting out in Pilates, you won't need much equipment. You will need a suitable surface, which can be achieved with a Pilates mat. Pilates mats are a little different from yoga mats as they're slightly thicker. Pilates mats offer more support through extra cushioning, whereas yoga mats are thinner but provide more stability and ground contact.
Which is harder, Pilates or Yoga?
Both Pilates and yoga can be extremely challenging, it depends on how hard you train and how much you want to challenge yourself. Generally, Pilates is a lot more intense than yoga. Pilates focuses solely on improving strength and flexibility, whereas yoga has many different types that include gentle and restorative flows as well as challenging asanas to cater for overall well being. Beginners are encouraged to try both options and see which one they prefer.
